Ms. Lauren Kane, M.Ed. is a compassionate therapist committed to providing comprehensive mental health care to individuals of all ages. With a strong dedication to evidence-based practices, Lauren creates a calm and judgment-free environment throughout the therapeutic process.

 

Lauren assists individuals dealing with a range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, panic, trauma, OCD, relationship difficulties, low self-worth, and disordered eating. Lauren offers support through life crises including quarter-life crises, relationship crises, professional crises, and difficult life events of all kinds.  Drawing from her extensive training, Lauren employs various therapeutic techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based, and Person-Centered approaches. She emphasizes the importance of maintaining a strong mind-body connection throughout the therapeutic process. 

 

Passionate about supporting clients in overcoming emotional, relational, and vocational barriers, Lauren has experience working with high-achievers, workaholics, and students who grapple with the various consequences of their drive for success. She is committed to helping you find the sometimes elusive work-life balance. Whatever your needs, Lauren collaborates with you to develop a treatment plan tailored to your unique needs.

Lauren takes a holistic approach to therapy, facilitating self-exploration and uncovering the underlying causes of what is troubling you most. Additionally, Lauren is also an advocate for social and racial justice and warmly welcomes clients from all cultural backgrounds and those from LGBTQIAAP+ community.

 

Lauren is currently developing a specialization in evidence-based eating disorder treatment. She is passionate about assisting those in formal eating disorder recovery or those who are embarking on a journey to repair their relationship with food and body. Lauren embraces the All Foods Fit philosophy, Health at Every Size evidence, and supports clients in pursuing Intuitive Eating from a weight-neutral standpoint. She provides guidance to individuals diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, as well as those with Purging Disorder, ARFID, and Orthorexia. Lauren loves to integrate social justice concepts inherent in the eating disorder recovery world. Lauren stands against fat-phobia and embraces a feminist philosophy against starvation to achieve patriarchal beauty standards.

 

Lauren provides guidance for individuals navigating the complexities of the dating world or facing challenges within long-term relationships. She utilizes Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) and Gottman Method therapeutic techniques when working with couples to repair intimacy and lost connection. Lauren recognizes the impact of relationship traumas, such as infidelity, frequent rejection, stonewalling, and blame, and believes in the power of healing through treatment. Understanding the pain and grief that come with the end of a relationship, Lauren offers unwavering support to individuals as they process and heal in the wake of a breakup, as well. Lauren understands how important your relationship needs are, and she is here to help you navigate your way to getting them met. 

 

Lauren loves to work with children and adolescents. As a recovering adolescent, Lauren understands the emotional intensity of growing up and finding your place in the world. It feels very natural for her to connect with adolescents on their level. Similarly, Lauren is trained to bring developmentally appropriate care to children as young as 5 years old. Lauren is passionate about helping families heal from childhood distress. Lauren’s goal is to make sure your child is heard, connected and safe. Lauren uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for children, as well as Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Trauma-Focused CBT, play therapy, therapeutic children’s books, as well as parent coaching to find approaches that work. 

 

Lauren takes pride in creating a supportive, therapeutic experience while also encouraging clients to surpass personal barriers in their journey towards self-actualization. Recognizing the bravery it takes to seek help, she strives to make the therapy room a place for both safety and growth. Understanding that each mental health journey is unique, Lauren considers it an honor to be part of yours.

 

Lauren earned an M.Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from George Mason University. She is currently licensed as a Resident in Counseling under the supervision of Jennifer Kauffman-Walker, Ph.D., LPC, and Heather Hecht, Psy.D.
